Convicted last April of the murder of Afro-American George Floyd, white policeman Derek Chauvin, presented for an appeal on Friday, June 25th, 2021, is sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison. « The court sentences you to detention for a period of 270 months, which is ten years more than the sentence prescribed by the Minnesota scale, » said Judge Peter Cahill, thirteen months to the day after the death of the black forty-something Minneapolis.

Relieved, the lawyer for the family of George Floyd as well as the parents of the late Afro-American coldly killed on May 25th, 2020, hailed a verdict working for the reconciliation of the nation.

It is not finished !

The court case will not end there. Indeed, the three other colleagues of the « murderous policeman » Derek Chauvin who had helped him to suffocate to death Georges Floyd, will also be tried in March 2022, for complicity in murder. As a reminder, on May 25th, 2020 in Minneapolis, police officer Derek Chauvin arrested George Floyd on suspicion of having used a fake $ 20 bill to buy cigarettes in a supermarket. With his three colleagues, he pinned him to the ground, handcuffed, before kneeling on his neck. Position he had maintained with pressure for more than 8 minutes, indifferent to the groans of George Floyd who was constantly complaining, by the famous sentence that went viral: « I can’t breathe ».
